Open thread (Super-Nerdy Edition).

With the new spec script finished (well, the first draft, anyway), I'm trying to catch up on a little movie watching this weekend so I can get a couple new reviews up here next week. Meanwhile, though, I thought I'd set you up with an open thread based around one of my favorite movies, Robert Meyer Burnett and Mark Altman's Free Enterprise. As always, you don't have to stay on topic and unpleasant posts will be deleted.

Nerd it up in the comments section!

What, did I pick a movie nobody's seen?

Yes.

I'm waiting for Fanboys.

Bob, have you really not seen Free Enterprise? I thought Pat made everyone she knows watch it!

I've seen it only once -- at your place, on the bog screen, all those years ago! I REALLY need to rent this one again.

...and naturally, I meant BIG screen. Not a bog screen. That would only be the case if I were Swamp Thing. The Wes Craven version, of course.

Scott,

It is true. I have not see it. I have probably wasted too much time with M Night Ramalamadingdong movies.

Man, I need to talk to Pat about this. In fact, I'm not sure why Free Enterprise hasn't been the Saturday night movie at Bubonicon -- surely the rental on it isn't that much...

I liked the movie, except I couldn't buy the "cute chick throws the nerdy guy against a wall and smooches him" writer's wish fulfillment moment. Other than that I enjoyed it muchly!

I'm a nerdy guy and I was once thrown against a wall and smooched by a cute chick. Since I'm the King of the non-closers, however, it didn't go much farther than that...

Greg, I'm a huge nerd and this has happened to me several times. Unlike Scott I am a closer tho.

Free Enterprise is FABULOUS. It has it's weak points, but I love it all the same. I need to re-watch it again soon. The subplot about the stress of turning 30 is very apt for my life right now. I've got 4 months and counting til I hit the big 30.

Hey Adam --

I deleted your double post, even though it helped to drive home the fact that nerds get smooched by cute girls ALL THE TIME. Some of us can actually finish the job, however.

I obviously go to the wrong conventions. Been to hundreds and never had a cute chick throw me up against the wall and smooched.

If I had seen Free Enterprise would this have happened?

Scott said...

Actually, Bob, I think that's part of the Free Enterprise Guarantee (tm)!
